Govt. happy with contributions of Nigerians in diaspora to national development – Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), said on Thursday that the present administration was happy with the contributions of Nigerians in the Diaspora to national development. He made the remark when some members of the Nigerians in Diaspora group paid him a courtesy visit at the State House, Abuja, Osinbajo added that the Nigerians abroad had demonstrated that the country was united and indivisible and expressed the hope that they would continue in that direction.

According to him, there is some innate greatness in the Nigerian person and that innate greatness can emerge and will emerge if the right leadership is given to various sectors. “The kind of thing we are seeing today is just on account of the fact that in your various capacities, you have shown leadership, commitment, and the ideals that we are waiting for to happen to many of our youths. “The story of Nigeria Is about the unity of all of you in different parts of the world and I think the day will come when people will realize that Nigerians have the innate gene to achieve greatness.’’

Osinbajo thanked the group for rallying round the present administration in its development programmes and promised that the administration will lift the country higher. The Vice President noted that the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration was running a people-oriented agenda.
“It is a people-oriented agenda, it is a bottom-up agenda because we strongly believe that the Nigerian people have the capacity to do great and incredible things so long as the leadership shows integrity, transparency and openness’’, he said.

He stressed that the administration would act in manners that would enable the people to have confidence and trust in it rather than do what could betray them; such as corruption. He said the government was willing to engage the Diaspora group by providing opportunities for them to participate in the change agenda of the administration. “We are all set for a change and we will see a great Nigeria and our children will witness it’’ t, he VP added.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who led the delegation, said Nigerians were excelling abroad and that the creation of a Diaspora commission would enable the members to key into government programmes. Chukuka Ezewuzie, Larry Ekundayo, and Olusegun Ajose, all members of the group, said they were ready to bring their expertise to train the grassroots youths in various fields, including sports.
