A Professor of Islamic Studies at the Department of Islamic Studies of the Lagos State University and the founder of the Muslim Rights Council (MURIC), Isiaq Akintola, has challenged Muslims to stand up against the activities of Boko Haram insurgents, Al Qaeda and ISIS.Mr Akintola made the statement at a lecture held at the College of Security Studies of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps, marking the beginning of the new Islamic calendar in Abeokuta, Ogun State’s capital on Saturday.
His comment came at a time when the Federal Government had reiterated effort towards ending the insurgency by the end of 2015.
While denying any link between Islam and the activities of the dreaded groups, Akintola appealed to young Muslims to avoid joining groups without proper understanding of their aims and objectives, in order not to bring the religion into disrepute.
