The State Government has reminded members of the newly sworn-in executive of the Tricycles Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria, (TORAN) in the State to make prudence, uprightness and accountability their watchword as they take charge of the day to day administration of the union.
General Manager, Parks and Garages Development Board (PAGADEB), Alhaji Ola-Ayo Ogunsolu gave this advice in Abeokuta at the swearing-in ceremony of the 26-man Executive Committee of the union, charging them to be fair to all. Ogunsolu observed that there were some lacunas in the TORAN constitution; admonishing the new leadership to put in place a review committee that would look into all the loop-holes within the next one month, pointing out that failure to do so would amount to insubordination.
“As a matter of fact, one of the very first assignment I want to give you is the amendment of your constitution, within the first one month of coming into office, I want you to set up a Constitution Review Committee and turn in your report, a situation where you operate without a valid constitution will not be accepted, failure to obey instruction means you are not capable and you must go and sit down,” the PAGADEB boss said.
While reiterating that Government’s commitment at ensuring peaceful coexistence among transport unions remained unwavering, Ogunsolu disclosed that his Board would continue to provide necessary assistance to ensure smooth operations.
On his part, TORAN’s National President, Mr. Augustine Apeh promised that the national body would ensure that the directive handed down on constitution review was carried out without delay and tasked the new leadership to embark on exchange programmes with other State chapters with a view to learning new trends in tricycle business and management.
Apeh thanked the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun for creating an enabling environment for his members in the State to operate, pledging that members would continue to support his administration’s aspiration to rebuild the State.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman of the new executive committee, Alhaji Morufudeen Ajani, stressed that the new officers would work hand in hand with other transport unions in the State, while calling on estranged members to join hands with new executive to move the union to the next level.
The committee saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the affairs of the union for the next four years comprises of, Alhaji Mauruf Ajani as Chairman, Alhaji Daleko Waheed as Vice Chairman, Alhaji Muyideen Olasupo as the General Secretary with Alh. Oyede Abul Rafiu as Treasurer, and Comrade Monsurat Sheu the only woman in the executive as Auditor.
