The governor who raised the issue during a question and answer session at a two-day Delta State Education Summit, demanded to know how best to go about establishing new tertiary institutions, when funding of the existing ones was already a big challenge in government’s determination to provide quality education for the people.
Governor Okowa informed the guest speakers and participants at the summit that the state presently grapples with a university with three campuses, seven polytechnics and three colleges of education and yet there were demands by communities and others for more higher institutions.
Earlier, while declaring the summit open, the governor said that his administration was out to provide the best education available for Deltans with emphasis on science, vocational and technical education. He stressed the need for the three tiers of government to engage in aggressive and accelerated internal revenue drive in view of the dwindling price of oil.
