17 kidnap suspects arrested in Delta State

Police detectives in Asaba Delta State said they have arrested 17 suspected kidnappers across the state in the last on month.

The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Alkali Baba Usman who confirmed the arrest of the suspects to journalists in Asaba on Thursday, said the suspects upon interrogation confessed to the crime, adding that they are responsible for kidnapping many staff of the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH) in recent times.

He said: “In process of our investigation, we found that idle youths aid kidnap suspects in executing their evil act, for instance, over 20 staffers of DELSUTH were kidnapped and released in the last one month, and the suspects confessed that idle youths in Oghara assisted them.”

The police boss disclosed that the suspects were arrested with the help of various vigilance groups, adding that they would be charged to court when investigations are completed.

“Oghara, Sapele, Ogwashi-Uku, Issele-Uku are flash points where these kidnappers operate, we will bring all of them to book” the Police Commissioner said.
