Govs, security chiefs brainstorm over anti-cattle theft fight AUGUST 22, 2015 : GODWIN ISENY

Seven governors of the North-West geo-political zone on Saturday in Kaduna met  with security operatives to appraise the war against cattle rustling and other cross-border crimes  in the zone.
Kaduna shares boundary with Kano, Katsina, Niger, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states.
The seven governors are Abdullahi Danguje(Kano), Nasir el-Rufai(Kaduna), Abubakar Bello(Niger), Aminu Tambuwal(Sokoto), Abubakar AtikuKebbi), Aminu Masari(Katsina) and Abdulazeez Yari(Zamfara).
All the State Directors of DSS, General Officer Commanding, One Mechanised Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, and the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police were in attendance at the closed-door meeting held at the Sir Kasim Ibrahim House, Kaduna.
The governors met with the special Joint Task Force established to root out the bandits in their domains.
The JTF comprises the military, Department of State Security and the Police.
Only recently, the war against criminal elements in Kaduna State got a boost as the JTF operatives  recovered 1,232 cows and also recovered 295 sheep and 14 donkeys from the rustlers from the notorious Kamuku and Kuyanbana forests in Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The governors assured the Special JTF of the states’ readiness to provide materials and other logistics to tackle cattle theft and other cross-border crimes in the zone.
Speaking shortly after the meeting on behalf of his colleagues, Yari, who is also the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, said in addition to adopting military approach to the war, governors from the zone planned to create job opportunities for unemployed youths as part of efforts to the youths engaged in positive ventures.
Yari, who said the governors had a robust deliberation with the security chiefs, called on the governors in the zone  to fashion out empowerment programmes for the youth in the various states.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the support given to the states to root out criminals in the zone.
