Kwara Assembly warns security operatives against harassing residents

The  Kwara State House of Assembly on Wednesday called on the Federal Government to relocate the Federal Prison at Oke-Kura in Ilorin to its permanent site at Mandala in Asa Local Government Area due  the alleged harassment and intimidation of residents by security personnel at the Oke-Kura Prison.
The lawmakers stated that the relocation was necessary to forestall a breakdown of law and order.
Speaker of the Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad, also urged military and prison personnel to stop the alleged harassment of residents of Oke-Kura in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
These were the resolutions of the House after debating on a matter of Urgent Public Importance, raised by a member, representing Ilorin North West Constituency. Mr. Abdul-Rafiu Abdul-Rahman.
The lawmaker had called for the total relocation of the federal prison in Oke-Kura to its permanent site in Mandala in Asa LGA.
Ahmad, while ruling on the matter, said the House, though not dwelling on issues on the exclusive legislative list, but had the constitutional power and jurisdiction to direct such relocation where the activities of the federal agency affected the well being of the people residing where such federal agency was located.
