Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has said a critical look at President Muhammadu Buhari’s operation since his emergence on May 29 portrays him as a president of Northern Nigeria only. Also, no fewer than 31 civil servants, who cut across various ministries and departments in Ekiti State, were yesterday, punished by Governor Ayo Fayose, for coming late to work.
Fayose, who described such development as tainted in ethnic and tribal colouration, said that if such steps are not immediately addressed for equity and justice, it could threaten the unity of Nigeria. Fayose explained that appointments made by President Buhari has showed an agenda for a deliberate “Nothernisation of Nigeria,”
In his words, “appointments made by the President so far negate the principle of federal character and it appears the unity in diversity of Nigeria is being taken for granted by the President.” According to a statement issued yesterday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said it was wrong for President Buhari to have made 31 major appointments and only seven will come from the South while 24 were from the North.
According to the statement; “To my mind, these lopsided appointments skewed in favour of the North is a reminder of President Buhari’s tenure as Military Head of State and I hope the President is not seeing Nigeria of today as that of 1984 because doing so will mean that he has turned himself to a northern president, thereby justifying his notion that those who gave him 97 percent votes must get more benefits than those who gave him five percent votes.’’
31 workers in trouble over lateness
Meantime, no fewer than 31 civil servants, who cut across various ministries and departments in Ekiti State, were yesterday, punished by Governor Ayo Fayose, for coming late to work. The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, in a statement said Fayose’s visit which exposed the late comers, was part of unscheduled visits the governor would be paying to government offices.
The governor, who stormed the state Secretariat at 8:00am, in an unmarked car and without the usual convoy and aides, ordered the gates of the Secretariat locked after him. The unsuspecting civil servants walked into the waiting hands of the governor, who kept watch at the gate.
Over 30 late comers were apprehended by the Governor, who immediately directed that a disciplinary committee be set up to try them with appropriate sanctions.
Expressing displeasure at the lackadaisical attitude of civil servants in the state, Fayose warned them against act of lateness and truancy. He ordered his aides and the Head of Service to take down the names of the affected workers, adding that stern disciplinary action must be taken against them
