The Nigerian Red Cross Society, NRCS, has said that Nigeria requires about two million units of blood in its blood bank on an annual basis to help give medical attention to accident, the injured and gunshot victims.
This requirement is against the backdrop of only about 25,000 units of blood being recorded annually as a result of limited number of voluntary blood donors.
Vice Chairman of Anambra State chapter of NRCS, Prof. Peter Katchy, who disclosed this to newsmen, yesterday, in Onitsha, Anambra State, therefore, urged Nigerians to form the habit of donating blood twice a year in order to meet the blood requirement in the country.
