Counting of ballot has started after Kogi indigenes on Saturday went to the polls to decide who governs them for the next four years.
Observers have said that the turnout was impressive and the people are hopeful that the outcome of the election would count at the end.
Channels Television’s correspondents covering the elections said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and materials arrived at most polling units at a little after 7:00am while voters began the accreditation exercise as early as 8:30am.
Issues of card reader failure were recorded in some polling units but election official said that in spite of the few challenges during accreditation, the adequate provisions by INEC ensured that persons who were affected got accredited.
By 1.30pm voting had commenced across several polling units in the state with sorting of ballot following immediately, except in few polling units where logistic issues had been faced earlier in the day.
Twenty-two candidates are contesting in the election on the platform of their different registered political parties
Some of the top contenders in the Kogi governorship race include the incumbent and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Captain Idris Wada, who will be in a tough race with a former Governor and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abubakar Audu.
Philips Salawu, a former Deputy Governor to the immediate past Governor of the state, Ibrahim Idris, is the candidate of the Labour Party.
