A 45 year-old man, Abiodun Alani, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Modakeke Chief Magistrates’ Court for failing to produce a suspect. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ona Glory, told the court that the surety committed the offence on Oct. 16 in Modakeke-Ife, Osun.
Glory said that the accused stood surety for one Oluwatosin Akintunde, a suspect in a case of obtaining money under false pretence and stealing for which the suspect pleaded not guilty. He said that the accused failed to produce the said suspect as stipulated in the recognisance form which the accused signed.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Procedure Laws of Osun, 2003. The Defence Counsel, Mr Joel Amole, pleaded for the bail in the most liberal terms, adding that his client would not jump bail and would produce reliable sureties.
Magistrate Bose Awosan granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. Awosan added that the surety should reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and adjourned the case till Nov. 25, for hearing.
