Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to rural communities in the state for their primary assignment to willingly accept their postings, even as he implored corps employers not to reject any corps member posted to them.
Okowa gave the advice yesterday while formally declaring close, the Stream one (1) of the 2015 Batch B Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Engr. Jude Sinebe, said “we cannot entrench the core values of national service if corps members reject posting to rural communities where their services are mostly needed”.
In these communities, he said, your services will be required in many areas where your education, exposure and experience from this orientation course will be most handy, adding that they should integrate themselves with members of the community that they were posted to serve.
Speaking further, Okowa who admonished the corps members to regard themselves as reliable agents of national unity, expressed hope that their exposure to the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme of the scheme would serve as an invaluable tool geared towards assisting them not only to be self-employed but to aim at becoming employers of labour after their service year
While urging corps employers to create the necessary and enabling environment for corps members to deliver the best stewardship capable of accelerating the development of the state, Okowa assured them (the corps members) of the warm welcome and hospitality of Deltans wherever they find themselves in the state.
Meanwhile, the governor has commended the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Olive Essie Etukudo, and other management staff of the scheme (NYSC) for having a hitch-free orientation programme in the state.
